Scarf / Foulard
I made a scarf, but before seeing it you will have to read through my rambling account about my love of Hermès & the Liberty Scarf Hall. The New York Times published a month ago an article about the scarf as the new "it" accessory. Being half French, I am apparently genetically predisposed to own & wear scarves. The more the better, and thankfully there are a few Hermès scarves in the stash. Travelling hasn't helped in recent months since they open a small Hermès shop at the CDG airport. Duty free + Hermès = and you will get from me a reaction similar to one of a kitty put in front of fresh catnip. My last investment (yes it is something to keep & pass along) is the "Fleurs d'Indiennes" scarf below.
As an extra on the website the excellent Hermes PDF to learn how to tie your scarf:
Another fabulous place to go scarf shopping is the Liberty scarf hall, with a selection that is anything but boring. Liberty also release some great tutorial videos on how to tie your scarf on their Youtube channel (the French accent of their scarf expert has been qualified from anywhere from "charming" to "annoying", if you can't deal with the froggy accent cut the sound the videos are pretty self-explanatory).
I finally make it to my creation: a 51x51 inches of silk heaven, all hand hemmed (not sure I quite mastered the rolled edge...). I followed the advice of Lauranne Plat, the Liberty scarf expert, when modelling the scarf below.

Liberty "Pauly Parrot" / Liberty Perroquet
Some end of summer fabric shopping at Shaukat in London to stock up on some Liberty. When I talk about stock, I really mean enough fabric to dress a small country like the Vatican (although I suspect flowery print is not something worn that much there).
In the Fall Liberty collection my favorite by far is the "Pauly Parrot" print, it's cute and cheeky!
A Monthy Python skit about a (dead!) parrot.

Reversible it bag / Sac de fille réversible
Two words make me very happy "sales" and "Liberty", so needless to say the happiness did not add up but multiplied when I discovered a few weeks ago in London that sales were going on. I made a mad dash to the mother-ship to the Liberty store. They had some 1 meter remnants on sale (12£/meter!) & surprisingly in some of the prints we all love. 4 meters later and back home (not even mentionning the 4 other meters from here), I decided I needed to use some of the fabric urgently as I am pretty close to being labelled a fabric hoarder. I attacked immediately the blue Betsy print below to make the reversible bag seen in the Spring 2010 "Pochée" on page 89.
I simply made the 2 bags, put one inside the other & finished the edges in matching bias ribbon. Very easy & quick project for a really cute result. I am keeping this one, but I will definitely make a few ahead for presents.
Oh and I forgot to mention some of my other favorite things I did in London: I drank some Pimms in the sun & went to see a musical, Wicked.

While wandering at Shaukat, one of the sales ladies was thrilled to show me prototypes for their new collection of jewelry in silver & liberty: rings and a charm bracelet. She indicated that the jewelry will be available at their store or via their website, and customers will be able to chose the Liberty fabric they want. The sales lady also mentionned that the rings would be available in other shapes (squares). I love their idea, all the more since under the fabric for the ring there is a turquoise that can be revealed once the fabric is worn out.
Too bad the rings were all prototypes and non at my size...

Fabric shopping in London / Shopping tissus à Londres
First stop on Goldhawk Road: a small street full of fabric stores. All the cotons and cotons mixes I bought were between 2 to 3.50 GBP per meter. Bolts and bolts of fabric to dig through, and in the end some quality and very stylish finds. See below the loot and addresses.
FABRIC WORLD
#49C Goldhawk Road
My favorite, a coton with little magpies thieves:A modern twist on "broderie anglaise" with holes but no embroidery, just a printed highlights around the holes:
#53A Goldhawk Road
A white plumetis (never sure how to translate some French terms) again with a twist: tiny silver threads are woven in the fabric, to give is a subtle shine.
#44 Goldhawk Road
SHAUKAT & COMPANY
170-172 Old Brompton Road

Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness
A big part of my spare time consists in hoarding fabric. I blame it on my mother for bringing me at an early age "Marché Saint Pierre" the frozen-in-time fabric store right at the bottom of the Montmartre Hill & the Sacré Coeur.
In my memories I could barely see the top of the tables. Going back to these childhood memories on a Saturday is always a soothing experience. Those who know the neighborhood and the store would say that the experience is more like fighting the inebriated crowds on Mardi Gras on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
When in London I never miss an opportunity to go to the Liberty store to check out their fabric selection. Unfortunately their selection has gotten smaller over the years and a bit shameful for the Liberty mothership, so in the end I only got their just to say "hi" to the beautiful building. My sister just in time gave me the name of her new Liberty "dealer" (let's face it is an addiction...), Shaukat on Old Brompton road. Here is a snap shot of the last harvest:
Addresses:
If you are in Paris you can combine a visit to Montmartre and the Sacré Coeur, and on the way back down from the hill you can check out:
Dreyfus - Marché Saint Pierre, 2 r Charles Nodier, 75018 Paris (a Parisian tradition & a mess!)
Sacrés Coupons, 4bis rue d'Orsel, 75018 Paris (great 3 meter remnants from famous fashion houses, great silks, wools, cottons & linens in the summer)
In London:
Liberty, Great Marlborough Street, London W1B 5AH (worth the visit even if you don't buy anything)
Shaukat & Company, 170-172 Old Brompton Road, London SW5 0BA (a great selection in the store, good prices, and also good online service). The picture below is from their webpage showing one of the "Liberty Walls":

Dandelion inspiration
The dandelion design is appearing in a lot of places these days. One of my favorite Liberty fabric uses it for its "Fairy Clock" design:
More colors on the Liberty site:

After major shopping a Shaukat http://www.shaukat.co.uk/Liberty.asp (the online service is seamless & the shop is fantastic with a huge variety of fabrics more than a certain store where you would expect more) I finally made a top out of the fabric (Pattern B from the Japanese pattern book "Stylish Dress Book 1"):

It's also a ceiling lamp I may just have to buy at Ikea. Not sure what I would do with it, maybe I will wear it on my head for Halloween & fly away in the Parisian skies...
Meantime it is in my virtual living room on the Ikea website http://www.moi-et-monsalon.com/:
