Shopping in Singapore / Shopping à Singapour

I was a week away in Singapore & managed to find some new favorite places for fabric & sewing supplies shopping in the "People Park Center" right out of the Chinatown metro (exit to the OG department store which is right next door). The whole 2nd floor is dedicated to fabric & supplies, below I am sharing my 2 favorite places.

Malin Textile:
Specialized in Japanese fabrics / Spécialisé en tissus japonais.
2 stores #1122 & #1134 / 2 stores #1122 & #1134

A very nice selection, not super cheap (but cheaper than what I would find in France!). Dig through the bolts, gems are hidden under there. The service is also very nice & friendly.
Here are some of my purchases:

Flowers & butterflies / Fleurs & papillons

No one comes out of La Droguerie without load of inspiration, loads of shiny & sparkly gorgeous supplies to make jewelry and a lot less little less in their wallet. I borrowed a few pictures from www.ohhappyday.com who managed to sneak a few pictures of the store (there is a big sign on the door saying pictures are not allowed!).

One of my projects was to make birthday earrings for a friend who loves pink like a 6 year old, and is loud & proud about it. If you are reading this, you know who you are! Click on the picture to see larger instructions.

If you love beads, ribbons, yarns or just want to see a little gem of a store come by (avoid saturdays if possible & line up at the button or findings counters for help, the wait is long but the advice you will get is worth it).

Vintage Inspiration / Inspiration Vintage

Some vintage inspiration from my last trip to New Orleans at the River Road Flea Market: some patterns from the 60's & 70's, buttons, and some Harper's Bazar magazines from the other 60's... not 1960, but 1860!

I should watch Mad Men & get back to sewing!
Je vais regarder quelques épisodes de Mad Men et me remettre à la couture!

Buttons in Paris / Boutons à Paris

A fantastic address for buttons in Paris (18th): great selection, nice service and "no button from China" insisted the owner!

Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness

A big part of my spare time consists in hoarding fabric. I blame it on my mother for bringing me at an early age "Marché Saint Pierre" the frozen-in-time fabric store right at the bottom of the Montmartre Hill & the Sacré Coeur.
In my memories I could barely see the top of the tables. Going back to these childhood memories on a Saturday is always a soothing experience. Those who know the neighborhood and the store would say that the experience is more like fighting the inebriated crowds on Mardi Gras on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
When in London I never miss an opportunity to go to the Liberty store to check out their fabric selection. Unfortunately their selection has gotten smaller over the years and a bit shameful for the Liberty mothership, so in the end I only got their just to say "hi" to the beautiful building. My sister just in time gave me the name of her new Liberty "dealer" (let's face it is an addiction...), Shaukat on Old Brompton road. Here is a snap shot of the last harvest:

Addresses:
If you are in Paris you can combine a visit to Montmartre and the Sacré Coeur, and on the way back down from the hill you can check out:
Dreyfus - Marché Saint Pierre, 2 r Charles Nodier, 75018 Paris (a Parisian tradition & a mess!)
Sacrés Coupons, 4bis rue d'Orsel, 75018 Paris (great 3 meter remnants from famous fashion houses, great silks, wools, cottons & linens in the summer)

In London:
Liberty, Great Marlborough Street, London W1B 5AH (worth the visit even if you don't buy anything)
Shaukat & Company, 170-172 Old Brompton Road, London SW5 0BA (a great selection in the store, good prices, and also good online service). The picture below is from their webpage showing one of the "Liberty Walls":
