The inspiration comes from all the collar-necklaces that have invaded every fashion magazine & blog. I am a bit behind on this one?!
The inspiration came in particular from the rounded shape of this leather & rhinestone collar/necklace seen on the Topshop site. Add to it my favorite thing in the world these days... glitter...
Start drawing a pattern on paper, try it on and adjust it until it has the right shape around your neck. For the collar itself, I used some fake leather, but in the end used the wrong side that was woven & softer to get a better grip on the glitter/glue mix. I mixed about 1/2 glitter and 1/2 glue for a very thick mix. I applied 3 layers (basically apply, let dry, and aply another layer if some parts are missing glitter).
Punch holes to connect the two pieces in the front and to attach the clasp in the back.
If you like this necklace, you will enjoy the matching shoes.

DeleteI love the idea of using leather since it doesn't require hemming. Lovely tutorial!
ReplyDeleteI actually used fake leather, and used the wrong side (the brown side on the pic) which was woven & bit more rough. I have found that Mod Podge works best on fake suede or rougher surfaces to grip. What you can't see is that on the other side of the collar is actually the right side of the fake leather which is a nice smooth black finish, so you are indeed right without hems etc it has a nice & neat finish. Not sure how real leather would work maybe more porous or trickier to work with.
Deletenice!!!! xx
